"Large staring eyes circling around in a dark room, like the lonely planets. First impressions are held one when you move into Tony Ourslers universe. The giant eyes suck the viewer into an infinite color cosmos.
We are on a photo journey in which grotesque faces projected onto sculptural objects have usurped the space. Video figures exude a profound, almost mystical vividness, and one must pinch himself in the arm to make certain that you have not entered the midst of a surreal dream.
The meeting with Tony Ourslers absurd creatures is a gripping art experience and has a humorous edge. You might laugh or run screaming when suddenly, in the midst of a burning flame hell, a deformed giant mask comments in a Beckett-esque orddelirium? One must surrender to the exhibitions original execution when someone enters a room where a live pop-corn-eating audience sees the video projections, which are located on the opposite wall - behind the beholder?
Tony Oursler is considered one of the biggest names in international video art. His works are created out of a fascination for the modern mans intensive consumption of media. Precisely for that reason, he takes his spectacular video sculptures to a limit where media consumption and psychosis collide and become a part of each other." (GL Strand, translated from Danish)
