La Sucrière

Biennale de Lyon
Sep. 10 - Jan. 6, 2016

Tony Oursler presents his videos in installations he calls "devices", within which the projected image is deliberately cut free of its frame. Tony Oursler's installation for the Biennale, in the central silo of the Sucrière, investigates the question of identity - massive indexing is becoming the norm on a global scale thanks to facial recognition technology. The coercive effects of this technology, which is used in video surveillance, biometrics, and robotics, as well as for the classification of images and videos on the Internet, have not yet been totally understood. Tony Oursler references them in a vast installation that spotlights the impact of digital technology on everyday life.
